PPP has no objection to delimitation, says Khuhro

Karachi

The Sindh Assembly speaker said on Monday the Pakistan People’s Party had no objections over the delimitation of Karachi’s constituencies.

However, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro added that it would be a difficult task to achieve as there was not much time left before the next general elections.

“Delimitation is based on voters’ lists and the population census, which has not been conducted after 1998.”

Khuhro was speaking during his visit to the APP Karachi Bureau.

He advocated the construction of small dams instead of the Kalabagh Dam.

The speaker recalled that in the past the Council of Common Interests had recommended the construction of small dams to overcome the country’s energy crisis.

“It has been universally established that big dams are infeasible because of their high cost and lesser life.”

Supporting the Bhasha Dam project, Khuhro said: “it is feasible from all aspects.”

The speaker said keeping in the view the aspirations of people, the Pakistan People’s Party had strongly opposed the construction of Kalabagh Dam as it would harm national integrity.

Replying to a question about President Asif Ali Zardari’s address to the provincial assembly, he said no date had been finalised yet in this respect. “It will be an honour for us if a duly elected president addresses the Sindh Assembly session,“ he added.
