LAHORE: Around 15,000 police officials would perform security duties at Majalis and processions on the 9th and 10th of Muharram.
CCPO Muhammad Aslam Tareen has ordered officers to ensure four-layered security at all processions besides lighting up the routes. The CCPO Lahore visited different Imambargahs and routes of processions on Friday and issued on the spot orders to rectify loopholes in the security arrangements.
During his visit to Kali Kothi Iqbal Town, the CCPO directed SP Iqbal Town to install barbed wires at the backside of the Imambargah and two snipers at the right and left sides of the building.
While checking the security at Imambargah Qasre Batool, he ordered to depute additional force at the backside of the Imambargah. The CCPO also ordered to depute two snipers at the rooftop of Imambargah Qasre Abbas Model Town. Aslam Tarin also directed the DIG Operations to ensure timely provision of food to the cops deputed on security duties.
However, some Azadars complained about the poor police patrolling around the main procession to be held from Nisar Haveli.
They were of the view that in the past years, police were used to patrol the route of the procession extremely and banned the entry of any private or public vehicles two days ahead of the procession.
Meanwhile, Lahore Police remained high alert on Friday and provided foolproof security at around 31 processions of Shabih Zuljinah and Alam and at 2491 majalis. Police have also been directed to implement ban on pillion riding during 9th and 10th of Moharram.
CCPO told that Lahore Police will utilize all its resources for maintenance of law and order and provision of security cover to mourners while Police officials will have to perform their duties with commitment and dedication for foiling the nafarious designs of terrorists and miscreants.
The force of Rescue 1122 has also been put on high alert to meet any emergency. DG 1122 has directed the officials to ensure presence along with processions.
Adl. IG Traffic Punjab, Kalbe Abbas had also held a meeting with DIG Operations Lahore, DIG Tele and SSP Training School and reviewed the security arrangements. Kalbe Abbas said that negligence will not be tolerated at any cost.
Moreover, CTO directed traffic wardens to keep a close liaison with Lahore Police and inform them about the presence of any suspected thing or person. He also ordered to ensure ban on pillion riding.
