Pak football star injured in assault

KARACHI: Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Essa was injured in an attack by unknown assailants on Monday when he was training footballers at theEssa Khan Academy in Chaman.

Sources told ‘The News’ that four unidentified armed men came in a car and beat Mohammad Essa with wooden sticks around 2:00pm on Monday when he was training young footballers in his own in Chaman. They fled in their car afterwards.

Essa was taken by the local people to a nearby hospital in a semi-conscious condition.

Sources said that Essa’s condition looked stable after initial treatment.

However, the exact nature of his back injury will be known after X-ray examinations.

Sources said that Essa had lodged an FIR in the local police station and the police were investigating the incident.

Sources said that Essa could not recognise the assailants. They added that Essa had a dispute with a club’s management playing in the Premier League.

But some sources said that the management of the said club could not dare to take such a step.
