KARACHI: The cricket authorities in the country had to shift the National T20 Championship from Karachi to Lahore as a precaution due to the latest surge in unrest in the port city.
“We had been thoroughly monitoring the situation and due to the latest unrest in the city we had to take the decision to shift the event, quite reluctantly, as a precaution,” the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) spokesman Nadeem Sarwar told ‘The News’ on Monday.
“We also had to shift the last event from Lahore to Karachi hardly five days before the start due to dengue problem,” Nadeem said.
“Karachi was our preferred choice because of the weather conditions and public support. And I would reiterate that we took the decision in the larger interest of the game,” said Sarwar.
He ruled out the impression that senior players had raised concerns over the security environment in Karachi.
Meanwhile, sources said that the matches would be held at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, LCCA and Gymkhana Grounds.
Six matches will be held a day and in order to avert the dew factor the last match of the day will be ended before evening. Around 17 matches will be held in the event running from December 2-10.
