ISLAMABAD: Political analyst Gen (Retd) Talat Masood said that President Obama will most probably pick new team for next four-year term, which will review US policies towards Pakistan.
Talking to VOA, Gen Talat said that US administration will try its best to seek Pakistan’s maximum cooperation for its troops’ withdrawal from Afghanistan till 2014.New Obama administration may review its past mistakes for good ties with Islamabad, he added. He said Washington and Islamabad would try their best to cooperate with each other in Afghanistan. The level of mutual interest of both countries may increase in second term of President Obama, he added.
He said stability and peace in Afghanistan is very important for Pakistan, otherwise Afghan instability may bring many threats to Pakistan. Analysts, talking to VOA, said that Democrats success in America would have always been good for democracy in Pakistan.
Director of Area Study Centre in Peshawar University Professor Dr Sarfaraz said that Pakhtuns are taking interest in US Presidential election due to ongoing war against terrorism and Obama strategy towards Afghanistan.He said that Obama’s new policy towards region should be better than that of his previous term.
In response to a question regarding Obama’s reelection implication on Pakistan and Afghanistan, Chairman of International Relations at Peshawar University Prof Ijaz Khattak said “ I think US will withdraw its troops timely but Washington’s commitment regarding war against militants will continue”.
He said Republicans deal issue through its administrative point of view but Democrats give priority to social justice. He said those who want to derail democracy in Pakistan will think twice after reelection of Obama. “I think democracy will continue to flourish in the region following Obama’s reelection. Now, US will focus on social, public welfare and democracy in the region,” he added.
ANP leader Bushra Gohar said that securing of foreigners Americans and women votes by Obama is the outcome of his positive work.She said that she doesn’t expect any major change in US policy towards the region.
She said that they don’t see any major shift in US foreign policy but Obama can easily implement his polices after reelection.Defense analyst Vice Air Marshal (Retd) Shehzad Chaudhry said that reelection of Obama will be better for US and especially for Islamabad and Washington relations and bring prosperity in Pakistan.
To a question, analyst said that Obama inherited Afghan war from his predecessor former President Bush. Perhaps he would have concluded war if he had not fear of public reaction to dub him as coward President.
