Author: Mike Gee

On the other hand, repairing the broken screen yourself can prove to be difficult, especially if you do not have technical know-how. The device can be damaged even more and you will also forfeit your warranty.
However, cost is the main issue here. Getting the iPad screen repaired from Apple will cost you a minimum of $ 200, where as you can do it on your own at less than half the cost. Although there is a risk involved, it is not an impossible ordeal.

This article will teach you how to repair the broken screen on your iPad 1.
Let's start. First off you will need some pry tools and the double zero Philips screwdriver as it is widely recommend for iPad repairs. In addition, you require metal spudgers along with the iPad opening tool.
The iPad adhesive kit is also an essential component and you will also require a heat gun or a hair dryer. Complete your requirement by purchasing a replacement digitizer. Once these materials are in place, switch off your iPad and get to work.

At the bottom of the iPad digitizer, you will find a couple of fragile pieces that easily break if not handled with care. These parts include the cellular antenna, digitizer cable, and the Wi-Fi antenna. Of course, you will need to remove them. However, do so gently with the help of pry tools.
Let's start with the most difficult part, which is removing the old screen. This is because the screen is broken, and it is held in place by adhesive. Use dryer or the heat gun to diminish the adhesive and then use the pry tools to lift the screen.

If you are using the heat gun, keep a distance of an inch to avoid excessive heating. Wedge the pry between the digitizer and frame slowly.

Work with the pry tool until the frame becomes completely loose. Remember that no cables should be pulled at this point. Therefore work slowly. After removing the frame, use something sharp to remove the cables.

Next you will open the LCD screen by opening the 8 screws that keep it in place. You will also find some black tape strips on the sides of the LCD. Remove them along with the ribbon cable.

Finally, it is time to bring in the new iPad digitizer. To do this, place the screen on an even surface and bring in LCD assembly. Reversing the steps given above, connect all the items back together to assemble the frame and close the iPad.
This was it. It is not so difficult when you read, but to avoid any problems in the repairs, be as patient as you can. Ideally, watch a video tutorial and copy what is shown on the screen.
