ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said that there are reports that foreign elements can exploit the situation to instigate sectrtarian strife of during Muharram-ul-Harram.
He has directed that transmission of all the religious channels be suspended during Muharram-ul-Harram. Same way all CD channels during Muharram should not be allowed to function. Pemra should consider for enforcing these measures.
Chairing a meeting to review law and order situation in the country here on Thursday he assured home secretaries and PPOs that they will get required troops from FC and Army in aid of civil power.
The minister said that LJ & TTP nexus is a serious threat in the country particularly in KP. He directed that masajid, hostels and madaris be kept under strict surveillance. The administration of such institutions be called upon and advised not to entertain guests in and on violation, responsible can be arrested. IGs and home secretaries will hold meetings with religious leaders of both the sects to ensure peace during Muharram-ul-Harram, the minister said.
He said control rooms would be established for Muharram-ul-Haram at all level.The minister directed the relevant officers for timely communication of information to the National Crisis Management Cell.
He said that close liaison with intelligence agencies and police deployment with all majalis & processions and deep plugging of the streets and roads approaching routes and imam bargahs should be ensured.
An extra ordinary vigilance shall be observed during and after dispersal and in addition to the personnel on duty fresh contingent may also be employed to maintain the level of vigilance and alertness till the complete dispersal after Sham-e-Ghariban.
PPI adds: Later the minister told media persons that foolproof security measures will be taken to avoid any untoward incident during Moharramul Haraam.He said we have received threats of terrorism during Moharram and steps will be taken to tackle them.
He said helicopters and CCTV cameras will be used for surveillance of Moharram processions. Besides, additional contingent of police will be deployed outside mosques and Imambargahs.Responding to a question, Rehman Malik said some elements want to provoke sectarianism but the people should stand united to foil their evil designs.
To a question, the minister said that sale of SIMs will be stopped from shops from the first of next month.These would be dispatched by the respective mobile phone companies to the addresses given on the National Identity Cards.
He asked the people to get their SIMs registered by 30th of this month. He also asked the mobile companies to open up new offices for verification of the SIMs.About Malala Yousafzai incident, Rehman Malik said the handler of the attack has been identified and we are close to nabbing the perpetrators
