A two-member bench of Supreme Court Tuesday turned down an appeal of Punjab government and upheld decision of Punjab Services Tribunal pertaining to restoration of three-year service of a Dera Ghazi Khan jail deputy superintendent.
Representing the provincial government, an additional advocate general informed the court that on June 25, 2009 a prisoner Akbar had attacked and killed his fellow inmate in DGK jail. A department inquiry was conducted and found superintendent, deputy superintendent Farrukh Sultan and five others guilty. Resultantly, the services of delinquent officers were forfeited up to one to three years. Punjab Service Tribunal had restored Sultan’s three-year service on the ground that he was on leave on the day of occurrence.
Law officer requested the court to nullify PST decision, however, the bench upheld tribunal decision and dismissed the Punjab government’s appeal.
