Two thirty-year-old constables were shot dead while riding a Post Office cash vehicle for offering resistance during a robbery bid on Wednesday.
Peerabad police said armed men also looted Rs170,000 and snatched the SMGs of the cops.
The gunmen had intercepted the vehicle near the Banaras Bridge and tried to rob the van, but when the cops resisted, they opened fire and fled with the booty. The constables, Rizwan Ahmed and Naeem Ahmed, died on the way to the Civil Hospital.
Bandit killed
An alleged bandit was killed in an encounter with the Aziz Bhatti police.
During a routine checking near Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 13 D/2, a police team signaled two motorcyclists to stop, but they opened fire instead and sped away. The police then chased the culprits and also returned fire.
During the shootout, one of the motorcyclists suffered injuries and fell off the bike, while his accomplice escaped. The injured, identified as 20-year-old Imran, died on his way to the JPMC.
