Police have arrested several people in Shahzeb murder case, court told


KARACHI: The police on Saturday submitted a supplementary progress report before the Supreme Court in the Shahzeb Khan murder case, claiming the arrest of three nominated accused along with a facilitator and several others.

The Supreme Court had taken suo moto notice of the murder of Shahzeb Khan, 20, who had been killed by people belonging to an influential family on December 25,

and non-arrest of culprits due to political pressure.

The Supreme Court’s three member-bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, had ordered the IGP of Sindh on Friday to arrest the culprits in the next 24 hours.

Filing the progress report before the Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry, the Additional IG of Karachi, Iqbal Mehmood, submitted that the police had arrested three of the main accused, Nawab Siraj Talpur, Sajjad Talpur and Ghulam Murtaza Lashari along with Nawab Imdad Talpur, father of Siraj and Sajjad, who was a allegedly a facilitator in the commission of the offence.

The AIG also submitted that extensive efforts were being made to arrest the main accused, Shahrukh Jatoi, whose name had been placed on the Exit Control List, and the ministry of interior had been approached for the cancellation of his passport and issuance of red-warrants against him. Besides, he said, the NADRA had been requested to give the bank account details of the accused.

He said that two vehicles with registration numbers of Moro and Kandhkot that were used in the crime had also been impounded by the police while three houses of Sikandar Jatoi, father of Shahrukh Jatoi, were sealed.

He submitted that raids were conducted in Hyderabad, and two brothers, Sadaruddin Talpur and Sohrab Khan Talpur, sons of Imdad Talpur, and their uncle, Sain Dino Khaskheli, had been arrested.

The AIG said that two houses of Nawab Imdad Talpur in Citizens Colony and Qasimabad Phase-II had been sealed.

He said that Arif Lund and Waqar Lund, a brother of Asif Lund, Abdul Khaliq, father of Azhar Khaliq and Mazhar Khaliq, who had escaped to Dubai along with the main accused, Shahrukh Jatoi, had also been taken into custody.

The AIG said that the SHO of Darakhshan, Malik Saleem, SIO Aslam Khahkrani, and duty officer SI Mohammad Yasin had been suspended while DSP of Darakhshan, Waseem Khawaja, had been transferred from his present post. The matter will be taken up before the court on January 7.
