CHAKWAL: Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has said that judiciary, army and media are the custodians of democracy in the country as there is no alternative to democracy and it will be further strengthened in the next five years.
The prime minister said all the political parties have unanimous support for the continuity of the democratic process in the country and assured that not a single minute would be wasted in the holding of free and fair elections.
Addressing a public meeting here at the Government Postgraduate College ground, Pervaiz Ashraf said the supremacy of the Constitution is the only solution for all the problems of the country.
The premier said the PPP was the only political party in the country which had its own political system and political philosophy.
Prime Minister Pervaiz Ashraf said the holding of elections is a national obligation and the government will complete the electoral process on time.
He said only those would rule the country who would get the support of the masses through the ballot. He said, “The people enjoy democracy and no one can snatch this right from the masses.”
He said it was an honour for him that he was addressing a public meeting here on the birthday of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. He said he was also proud to be a resident of this area and now he was the prime minister with the blessings of the people.
He said Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had given political rights to the people, including the right to vote, by sacrificing his life.
He said in the 1970 elections, the people from all over the country supported the PPP. He said Shaheed Benazir Bhutto gave the message in the 2008 elections that “we have to make Pakistan a strong country and take along all the forces to find the solution of all the problems.”
He said President Asif Ali Zardari continued this philosophy of Benazir Bhutto, and the PPP formed a coalition government, which was going to complete its five-year term with the support of its allies despite difficult circumstances.
PM Raja said politics has been strengthened and now no one will be able to damage the political system and this message is from the PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and other party leaders. “This message is also from all the coalition partners of the government and political parties who believe that the democratic process should continue,” he added.
Speaking in the Potohari dialect, he said he started many projects for the welfare of the people of Pothohar.“I am your brother, and assure you that the best road network will be laid in the area,” he said.
The prime minister announced to accept all the demands of the local people and assured them of taking practical steps for their fulfilment. He hoped that the PPP would win the next elections with a majority from Chakwal as it had improved its position here.
