No room for change in system through unrest: Kaira

LALAMUSA: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira on Sunday said no one would be allowed to derail democracy and if there was any flaw in the system then one should follow the constitutional way instead of creating unrest in the country.

Talking to a delegation here, the minister said the procedure for forming the caretaker setup had been clearly defined in the Constitution, leaving no room for confusion in this regard.

“Both the opposition and government are parts of parliament representing the nation, and it’s their responsibility to decide about the caretaker setup. Hence anything against the Constitution would be unacceptable, but all suggestions within the domain of Constitution would be welcomed,” said the minister.

Kaira said those serving hidden agendas and wanting to change the system through unconstitutional ways would be exposed soon.He said PPP had rendered numerous sacrifices for the sake of democracy and it was the PPP government which revived the prestige of parliament and the judiciary.

Talking to the state TV here, Kaira said the PPP was following the policy of reconciliation.Replying to a question, he said there would be no Tahrir Square in Pakistan, because a democratic government, a responsible opposition, an independent judiciary, an independent Election Commission and a responsible media were in place to safeguard people’s interests.“Arab Spring-like uprisings suit only those countries where there is dictatorship and people have no say in the state affairs,” he added.
