Karachi
A group of armed men intercepted a truck in Manghopir on Monday night and tried to snatch the Nato vehicles it was carrying, but their attempt was thwarted by police.
The incident occurred just opposite the Manghopir police station.
When a police van quickly reached the scene, the robbers fired gunshots at it and the police station.
They escaped when the police fired back.
Orangi Town SP Nasir Aftab told The News that the robbers were trying to snatch the Nato vehicles loaded on the truck.
“Some of the Nato vehicles were damaged in the shootout,” he added.
Militants frequently target supply trucks for US and Nato troops that travel through Pakistani territory.
Two years ago, a convoy of trucks was attacked in the same area in the city.
The government had reopened Nato supply routes after a seven-month blockade in July last year following the US’ apology for the killing 24 of Pakistani soldiers on the border with Afghanistan.
