CHIEF Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that a modern system of payment of pension to the government servants is a significant step of the Punjab government towards good governance.
He further said that under the new system of pension payment, the government servants would get their pension through their bank accounts on the pattern of salary, thus ridding them of the difficult process of receiving their pension.
The CM was addressing the inaugural ceremony of modern system of pension payment held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat on Tuesday.
Congratulating the chief secretary, secretary Finance, and their whole team over introducing the system of pension payment, the CM said that complete implementation of the system should be ensured. He said the pilot project, which had been initiated from Lahore, should also include one district each of South as well as Central Punjab while the programme should be expanded to all districts of the province. He pointed out that Punjab was the only province in history of Pakistan where the modern system of pension payment was being introduced.
Earlier, addressing the meeting, Secretary Finance, Tariq Bajwa said that Punjab government has formulated a new method of pension payment, under which pension would be paid only through computerized pension roll.
He said the new system would be applicable on those government servants who would retire from first January 2013, after completing government service at the age of 60. Such retiring government servants would get their commutation and monthly pension directly through their bank accounts.
He said a pensioner would be able to get his pension from any scheduled bank or through ATM or debit card.
solar lamps: Shahbaz Sharif has announced that over 200,000 solar lamps will be distributed among matric and intermediate students of government institutes and all arrangements had been made in this connection.
He said the worst energy crisis had made acquisition of knowledge extremely difficult for the younger generation and agriculture, industry, commerce, education, health and other social sectors were getting badly affected. He said the Punjab government chalked out a programme for free solar lamps distribution under “Ujala Programme,” which would soon be initiated.
Shahbaz was presiding over a meeting held in connection with the “Chief Minister Ujala Programme,” at Model Town on Tuesday.
He said shortage of electricity had made the lives of the people miserable, ending commercial activities and rendering millions of workers jobless due to closure of industries. Similarly, he said, a negative impact had been registered on health and education sectors as students were facing difficulty in continuing their academic activities.
The CM said that while Punjab government was expeditiously implementing alternative energy projects, to overcome energy shortage, “Ujala Programme” was being initiated to help students continue their academic activities. He said solar lamps would be distributed on merit among students to help them continue their study even during loadshedding.
He directed the authorities to also consider provision of solar lamps to the students of religious seminaries.
Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Special Assistant to CM Zaeem Qadri, Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly Mashhood, MNA Saira Afzar Tarar and others were present.
