Zia’s allies now accusing PPP of supporting KBD: Khuhro

The provincial assembly speaker on Tuesday said those who were alleging that the Pakistan People’s Party supported the Kalabagh Dam project were once supporters of the late military ruler, Gen Ziaul Haq.

“These partners of the military dictator had supported the controversial dam. Their double standards have been exposed,” Nisar Ahmed Khuhro told the media at the Sindh Assembly building where Iranian Consul General Mehdi Sobhani had met him.

The speaker said the PPP had buried the dam issue once and for all by staging a sit-in in Kamoo Shaheed under the leadership of slain part chairperson Benazir Bhutto.

“Kalabagh Dam will never be built and this issue should be abandoned forever.”

The speaker said the PPP was accountable before the people of Pakistan.

“We will present ourselves before the people for accountability in the general elections and the people will make the final decision.”

Earlier, a five-member delegation led newly-appointed Iranian Consul General Mehdi Sobhani exchanged views with the Khuhro on the Pakistan-Iran relations, trade, the legislation in the Sindh Assembly and others matters of mutual interest.

The speaker also presented the traditional gifts of Sindhi Ajrak and cap as well as a provincial assembly shield to the Iranian consul general.
