MQM activist among nine shot dead

At least nine people, including an activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and two rickshaw drivers, were killed in separate incidents reported from different parts of the city on Tuesday.

Ali Abbas, 32, was fired upon and seriously injured by two bike riders on main Ahmed Shah Bukhari Road in Kalri police remit in the morning.

SDPO Jawed Ahmed Bhatti of Baghdadi Division said that deceased Abbas was a resident of Khamosh Colony, Gulbahar, and a rickshaw driver by profession. Abbas was rushed to the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) where he breathed his last. The deceased received a single bullet on his head which became the cause of his death. The police seized empty casings of 9mm pistol from the spot for forensic test.

Police said that the murder of Abbas seemed to be a part of target killing but they were investigating the matter with other aspects as well. He hailed from Hazara Division, Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa.

MQM activist slain

Nadeem Abbasi (32) was gunned down at a Daboo Club in Jamshed Quarters No-I area.

According to SHO Inayat Marwat, deceased Abbasi was residing in the same area and belonged to MQM. He was present at the Daboo Club when two armed men, riding a motorcycle, appeared there and opened fire at him.

He was taken to CHK where he breathed his last. The deceased received seven bullets of 9mm pistol on various parts of his body.

Later, tension gripped the area as armed men resorted to aerial firing and forced the shopkeepers to pull down shutters. Moreover, the activists and leaders of MQM reached the hospital where they lodged protest against the killing of their worker and demanded arrest of the culprits. Police described the murder of Nadeem Abbasi as part of target killing.

Two killed in New Karachi

Aslam Qaimkhani and Nadeem alias Bengali were shot dead in Sector-5J of New Karachi near W-11 stop in Bilal Colony police remit in the evening.

SDPO Chaudhry Mohammed Akhtar of New Karachi Division said that Aslam was a freelance reporter while Nadeem was his friend. They were heading towards their house on a motorcycle and when they were passing through the said place, unidentified men on motorcycle came across them and opened fire on them. A passerby in his teens also sustained bullet injury in the incident.

All the three were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) where Aslam and Nadeem expired, while the teenager was admitted for treatment. Both the deceased received two bullet wounds each at their upper torso.

Police said that Aslam was a known person in the Bengali community residing in Bilal Colony and he also used to settle their matters. Police said that the murder apparently seemed to be a part of target killing but they were investigating the matter with other aspects also.

Sectarian killings

Zaheer Khan and Hashmat Hussain were killed by the firing of two unidentified bike riders in Khalil Market in Iqbal Market police limits at night.

SHO Sabir Khan said that both Zaheer and Hashmat were residing in the same area and hailed from Gilgit-Baltistan. Zaheer’s body was taken to ASH while Hashmat expired at the AKU. The two men suffered multiple bullet wounds to their upper torsos.

Police termed the dual murder a part of sectarian killings, saying that they had suspicion that some banned outfit was involved in the attack.

‘Criminal’ gunned down

Iqbal (30) was fired upon and seriously injured by two men riding a motorcycle outside his house in Gulshan-e-Ibrahim in Ibrahim Hyderi police limits in the night. He was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where he breathed his last.

The deceased received multiple bullet wounds on his chest. According to SHO Naek Mohammed Jakhrani, the murder seemed to be the result of a personal enmity.

Labourer shot dead

Qudratuallah was killed while Saifur Khan was injured when they were fired upon by three men riding a motorcycle in Docks police area in the night. SDPO Imran Riaz of Keamari Division said that both Qudrat and Saif were labourers and residing in Machcher Colony.

Both the dead and the injured were shifted to CHK.

Later, police conducted a search in the area and arrested a suspect.

Body found

The bullet-riddled body of Aakash Lal (20) was found from Hassan Oliya Colony in Pak Colony police limits in the afternoon. The corpse was shifted to the CHK for postmortem Aakash was a resident of Dhoobi Ghaath, Garden, and a mechanic and rickshaw driver.

SHO Rao Shabbir said that the deceased had left his home for work in the morning when unidentified armed men kidnapped him from unknown place and later tortured him to death. Aakash received four bullets on his upper torso. Aakash belonged to Hindu community and the police described his murder as target killing, as the family denied any enmity with anyone.
