Rawalpindi
The City District Government, Rawalpindi, has failed to check different kinds of duty violations by key officials in the Revenue Department, which causes serious problems for the people going there for solution of their matters.
A survey conducted by ‘The News’ revealed that some revenue officers do not attend their offices and overseeing all matters from their houses. The concerned officers do not attend their offices on regular basis, and whenever they come to the office, they do not follow official duty timings. All ‘naib tehsildars’ handle all land-related matters in their houses through their ‘private’ touts. The ‘patwaris’ do not attend their offices every day and handle all revenue-related matters from their houses through private ‘touts’.
When ‘The News’ contacted Assistant District Collector (ADC) Talat Gondal, he said that he has already issued warning notices to all officers for duty timing violations. He admitted the fact that he could not visit other tehsil offices, therefore some officers were violating the office decorum. “I have started surprise visits to other tehsils, particularly Tehsil Kahuta, Tehsil Kallar Syedan and Tehsil Taxila and would issue show-cause notices to the officials found absent from duty and corrupt lower staff,” he added.
When ‘The News’ contacted Rawalpindi Division Commissioner Imdadullah Bosal, he took an immediate notice of the situation and directed the additional commissioner to issue an office order asking officials of Tehsil Kahuta, Tehsil Kallar Syedan and Tehsil Taxila to follow their duty timings at all costs.
Talking to ‘The News,’ clients at the Tehsil Kahuta Office said that they are facing worst kinds of problems as concerned revenue officers remain absent all the time. “The registry ‘moharir’ is taking full advantage of this situation and looting us with both hands and nobody stops him,” they alleged. Bashir Ahmed, a client from Tehsil Kahuta, said that the concerned ‘registry moharir’ has fixed Rs7,000 extra for a registry even after payment of all government dues. “If anybody refuses to pay Rs7,000, he would not get his registry,” he added.
When this scribe contacted the Tehsil Kahuta registry ‘moharir’, he refuted all allegations, adding that he only demands government taxes for a registry.
