Rangers, CID raids lead to dozens of arrests

Personnel of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) and the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of the Pakistan Rangers Sindh arrested more than 40 people suspected of their involvement in target killings and other heinous crimes. A huge cache of arms and ammunition was also recovered from their possession.

The ATS of Sindh Rangers raided the Ghas Mandi and Surjani Town areas, where several suspects were rounded up. According to the Rangers spokesman, the paramilitary soldiers conducted the targeted operations late on Saturday night/Sunday morning. He added that 24 criminals were detained and among them was a suspected target killer who allegedly belonged to a political party.

Weapons of different calibers, including submachine guns, MP-5s, rifles, pistols as well as armour piercing bullets, satellite phones, daggers, telescopes, binoculars and laser range finders were seized during the targeted operation.

Meanwhile, a Rangers operation was also underway in the Bilal Colony area, where 15 people, including four hardened criminals, were detained and 40 weapons recovered.

In yet another targeted raid, personnel of the CID Investigation Wing arrested five suspects, including two target killers, who were notorious as paid assassins. Arms were recovered from the possession of these suspects.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Mazhar Mashwani of the CID Investigation Wing said that his team raided the West Wharf and Korangi areas based on a tip. The police managed to arrest Mohammed Yaseen, Mohammed Zafar Khan, Mohammed Siddiq, Mohammed Asif and Shahnawaz after brief encounters.

The police also seized a Kalashnikov and four TT pistols from the suspects. The men were moved to the investigation wing and it was discovered that they were wanted by the police in target killing, murder and street crimes.

SP Mashwani said that accused Mohammed Yaseen and Mohammed Zafar were hired assassins who killed people for money.

The officer added that Yaseen confessed to the police that he and his associates, Ishaq and Fareed, had murdered people in the Korangi and Zaman Town areas.

At the same time, Zafar was wanted by the Landhi, Awami Colony, Defence and Sharifabad police stations in a number of target killing cases, He confessed that he used to kill people for money. The remaining detainees were wanted by the police in street crimes cases. Separate FIRs were lodged at the CID police station and investigations were underway.
