How You Can Avoid Losing Your Money

No one likes to lose money, whether it is inadvertently, due to wasteful spending, or because of malicious intent like phishing and identity theft. Whatever the reason, you end up not only losing money, but also many hours trying to replace everything. This, in turn, causes unnecessary headaches and strife. However, all three can be prevented with the proper measures. Below are some of the preventive measures you can take to help avoid

Losing Your Money
If you have ever lost your wallet or purse, or a dollar bill out of either, this is probably the hardest to replace. If you do not know where you lost your money, it is even tougher. Consider retracing your steps of everywhere you went, and check the pockets of everything you wore within the last day or hours. If that does not work, look through your car and rooms. Afterwards, if your search still turns up nothing, you may want to call anywhere you visited or shopped, and ask to speak with a manager. This might not turn up the results you seek, but in a situation like this, it never hurts to try.

Wasteful Spending
You have probably had a case of "buyer's remorse" before. This is where you purchase something and soon regret doing so. In the case of merchandise, it is easily correctable. However, with something like food, not as much.

However, before taking the plunge on an expensive item like a TV, computer, or even a new car, consider the reason behind making the purchase. Is it something you really need, i.e. a replacement for something on its last legs? Perhaps the item in question is for a hobby you want to pursue, such as photography or writing. Or is it simply a gift to yourself for all your hard work? All of those are valid reasons, and even if you are going to buy it just because you want one, just consider those factors.

In other cases, you might go out to eat a lot, and wonder why your bank account dwindles so quickly. Or you feel you have to rush out and buy the latest gadget as soon as they are available. However, consider holding off on making purchases. By waiting a few months, the price could easily go down, or you may even be able to get it used, for a much lower price. Cutting a few extra expenses is another way to save money each month.

Malicious Intent
In the last decade, identity theft has quickly become an issue that has hurt many consumers' bank accounts, either through phishing scams or access to people's confidential information. Proper identity management and steps can help stop you from becoming a victim. For example, not giving out confidential information to unverified sources is the first step in identity theft prevention.
However, pay close attention to sites, by looking for an "https" prefix or a padlock logo. Those are just some of the many steps that can aid in identity theft prevention.
