Security plan for Muharram finalised

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti on Monday said a security plan had been finalised to maintain law and order during Muharram.

Addressing an “Amn Jirga” at the Chief Minister’s House here, he said the plan had been chalked out in consultation with the Ulema and representatives of the people to avoid any untoward incident in Muharram. Provincial ministers, MPAs, religious scholars and others attended the function.

“We need to coordinate efforts to take on our enemies and establish peace,” he told the gathering. He said the people should put trust in the government as it needed the support of the masses. Haider Hoti urged the Ulema to work for promoting harmony among the people as “external forces” were hell-bent on vitiating peace.

Speaking on the occasion, provincial Minister for Information Mian Iftikhar Hussain said the Awami National Party (ANP) bravely faced the enemies and lost many workers and leaders, but it refused to be cowed down and its members weren’t demoralized. He said his party was committed to defeating the enemies of the country. He said the ANP was ruling the province under challenging circumstances. “We have pledged to protect our motherland and will not flee the battleground,” he vowed.

Javed Ibrahim Paracha, Allama Khursheed Anwar Jawadi, Hussain Ahmad Madani and others also addressed the jirga.
