Open heart surgery made available for people of interior Sindh

SUKKUR: The Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Khairpur. made history after Karachi when the first open heart surgery was performed there on Friday.

Reports said a successful open heart surgery was performed at the GIMS Khairpur for the first time. The cardiac patient was Abdul Sattar Abro.

Abdul Hameed Bhutto of the GIMS said Professor Dr Mudassir Dar of the Civil Hospital Karachi, along with a team of the GIMS, successfully conducted the bypass. The GIMS thus made history by initiating open heart surgeries in Khairpur, he said.

He said Saturdays and Sundays have been fixed for the open heart surgeries. At least four surgeries would be conducted on the fixed days. Cardiologist Dr Naseer Muhammad Bozdar said that there was no facility for open heart surgery in the interior Sindh. He said Medical Superintendent GIMS, Dr Rahim Bakhsh Bhatti had been making efforts to provide such a facility for the people of Sindh and achieved his goal. Dr Bozdar said the team of the GIMS was provided training at Karachi. The patients of blockage of vesicular valves of their heart would not have to go to Karachi now, he added.
