MANSEHRA: Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Abdul Sattar Khan on Friday said the people of Kohistan would allow the land survey of the proposed Dassu hydropower project after the federal government and Wapda accepted their demands.
The residents of Dassu, the district headquarters of Kohistan district, had forced the officials to stop survey of the proposed land till acceptance of their demands last month.“We have made it clear to the authorities that the people will not allow work on the project till removal of their grievances,” the MPA from Kohistan told reporters here.
He said the people of Kohistan were not against the mega hydropower project but they wanted their demands to be met before the start of work on the project. “The demands are reasonable. We want free-of-cost electricity for people of Kohistan after the completion of the dam and jobs for local people in the project,” he stressed.
Abdul Sattar Khan, who joined the Pakistan Muslim League (N) after winning a seat in the 2008 general election as an independent candidate, said the successive governments in the past did nothing for the development of the remote and under-developed district.
