Karachi

Four people, including a senior member of the Imamia Students Organisation (ISO), were killed in separate incidents reported in the city on Friday.

The deaths raised the number of people killed in political and sectarian attacks across the city to 35 in the past four days. Nine had died a day earlier, while ten had been killed on Wednesday.

Station House Officer (SHO) Haseebullah Qureshi said that Syed Saeed Haider Zaidi, 55, had gone shopping with his wife to Faisal Bazaar in the Azizabad police remit. After purchasing some household items, they went to the markets’s parking place and were about to mount their motorcycle when two armed men on foot opened fire, injured him and fled.

Some witnesses at the scene shifted the injured to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The victim had suffered two bullet wounds to his head. Police said a 9MM pistol had been used by the criminals.

Afterwards, activists and leaders of ISO and Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen went to the hospital and protested over the death of their leader. They also alleged the involvement of their rival group in the murder of Zaidi.

Investigators termed the murder as part of the ongoing sectarian killing. The victim was not only a senior member of the ISO but also a founding member of Darul Saqlain.

He was a resident of Rizvia Society.
