Haris and Sharjeel crack centuries to lift ZTBL

KARACHI: Batting sensation Haris Sohail and Sharjeel Khan struck glorious centuries to enable Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) to post 407-4 in their first innings against United Bank Limited (UBL) on the first day of their four-day match of last round of the President’s Trophy Grade-1 at the Marghazar Cricket Ground in Islamabad on Monday.

The left-handed Haris Sohail blasted 103 not out, his fourth century of the season, while Sharjeel cracked a quick-fire 141 off 131 deliveries to guide ZTBL to a decent total at close after being invited to bat first.

The 23-year-old left-hander Sharjeel was involved in a 112-run partnership for the opening stand with Afaq Rahim who belted 43 off 78 balls with eight fours.

He then added 56 for the second wicket with Yasir Hameed (18) and 53 with Haris Sohail for the third wicket.

Sharjeel, who will represent Hyderabad in the National T20 Championship, cracked 25 fours and three sixes.

Haris cracked 13 fours and two sixes in his gallant knock and also put on 112 runs for the fifth wicket unbroken association with his skipper Imran Nazir who blasted 55 not out off 68 balls, hitting nine fours.

The super feat helped Haris to become the leading scorer of the season with 624 runs so far. He is closely followed by SNGPL’s Ali Waqas who has to his credit 602.

Babar Azam made 35 with four fours.

Meanwhile, left-arm pacer Mohammad Irfan and right-arm pacer Ali Khan shared nine wickets amongst themselves to help KRL bowl National Bank out for a paltry 122 at the KRL Stadium in Rawalpindi. Ali got 5-11 and Mohammad Irfan picked 4-43. Anwar Hafeez was the only batsman who offered resistance and scored 45. KRL were 80-2 in reply at close.

At the National Cricket Ground in Islamabad, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), who have already qualified for the final along with Habib Bank, reached 213-6 at close in 71 overs after they were asked to bat by State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

Wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan was at the crease on 77 which he had scored off 110 balls with seven boundaries.

Taufeeq Umar (26), Azeem Ghuman (25), Khurram Shehzad (22) and Test cricketer Umar Akmal (16) were the other main contributors for SNGPL who were once again missing their skipper Misbah-ul-Haq and Test opener Mohammad Hafeez.

Left-arm pacer Rizwan Haider picked 3-61, while Mohammad Ali bagged 2-64.

Port Qasim Authority scored 293-2 in their first innings against Habib Bank at the Diamond Club Ground in Islamabad.

Test discard Khurram Maznoor scored 74 before being run out by Asad Shafiq. The right-hander hit 11 fours in his 133-ball innings. He added 118 runs with Usman Tariq (64) after opener and skipper Khalid Latif retired ill without opening his account.

Usman smashed seven fours and a six in his 94-ball innings. Umar Amin (97) and Daniyal Ahsan (42) then added 112 runs for the undefeated third wicket stand.

Amin hit 14 fours and two sixes in his 122-ball knock, while Ahsan hammered six fours.

HBL were playing without their skipper Younis Khan. Imran Farhat was captaining the side in his absence.

PIA were struggling against WAPDA as they were 212-9 at stumps after opting to bat first at the Mirpur Stadium in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Sohaib Maqsood top-scored with 53, hitting six fours and two sixes.

Anwar Ali was the pick of the bowlers as he clinched 4-65 while Jan Nisar Khan and Test pacer Aizaz Cheema captured two wickets each.
