A judicial magistrate at cantonment courts on Tuesday indicted Ali Imran Yousaf, son-in-law of the Punjab chief minister, and eight others including seven officials of Elite Force, accused of torturing an employee of a bakery.
The court has also summoned prosecution witnesses by November 30. The court framed charges against Ali Imran Yousf, Zafar Hussain, his bodyguard and Elite Force officials including Riaz, Yousuf, Mohsin, Maqsod, Farid, Nawab and Khalil Ahmed and others.
On Tuesday, the accused appeared before the court amid tight security as heavy contingents of law enforcement agencies had cordoned off the court.
The judicial magistrate asked the accused whether they accepted the charges or not. To which, all the accused refused to accept the charges and pleaded not guilty, after which the court indicted them to start regular trial.
Sources in the police informed The News that police had recorded statements of 10 witnesses who were summoned by the court for the next hearing on November 30. Previously, the court had granted bail to the accused. They contended that they were innocent and had nothing to do with the incident. However, they said they were ready to cooperate in investigation. According to the case, an FIR was registered by Umer Hussain, owner of a bakery, stating that a woman came to the bakery on October 7 and asked for a cake but the employees refused to entertain her saying that the shop was closed for cleaning.
To it, two bodyguards of the woman maltreated one of his employees, Irfan, and gave life threats to him. The FIR further said that on the same day at about 7pm, the two guards visited the bakery again along with another person, identified the worker and took him outside the shop.
Around six to seven Elite Force officials were already outside the bakery and they started thrashing Irfan and threatened him to kill him if he did so again.
One of the accused, Zafar Hussain, is said to be a private bodyguard of the Punjab chief minister’s son-in-law, Imran Yousaf. It is also said that the woman who had visited the bakery was daughter of Chief Minsiter Shahbaz Sharif.
