Islamabad: Sale of winter clothes including the second-hand woolies variety has increased after severe cold weather situation in twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
All kinds of wears and accessories including gloves, woolen hats, mufflers, pullovers, sweater shirts and jackets are seen hanging in front of stalls, shops in various markets, to attract the customers.
Stalls of winter clothes and sales points of shoes can be witnessed at Aabpara Market, Melody Market, Super Market, Jinnah Super Market, Sittara Market, Peshawar Morr, Karachi Company, Faizabad, Commercial Market, Sadiqabad Chowk, Raja Bazaar and at many other big shopping malls and markets of the twin cities.
Shopkeepers looked busy all of the day for running their business in winter season. “Our sales have doubled and we expect a further increase in the sales following winter days ahead,” claimed shopkeeper.
Saeed ur Rehman, a customer at Pirwadahi Lunda stall, said the prices of new winter wears are out of their reach. “We, therefore, rush to second-hand clothes’ stalls where quality clothes are available at affordable rates,” he added. But many customers complained that second-hand clothes were also becoming expensive. The prices of used clothes are spiraling every year, commented a shopper.
However, a second-hand clothes dealer said that they were getting these clothes at exorbitant prices from wholesale dealers in Lahore and Karachi and were forced to sell them accordingly. He said many well-off people, especially youths, are also buying second hand clothes from the market as their quality and designs are good.Samiullah Khan, a resident of Islamabad said he had bought two woolen sweaters for his children from a footpath shop at G-6 weekly bazzar.
