KARACHI: Former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja has expressed his discontent over the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) repeated attempts to host Bangladesh for a short limited overs series.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) recently cancelled their tour of Pakistan, citing security concerns.
The Bangladesh board, which reportedly agreed to send their team in return to PCB’s support in getting its nominee, Mustafa Kamal, the post of International Cricket Council’s vice presidency, postponed their tour of April 2012.
The former PCB chief executive officer said the board should stop asking the BCB to send their team.
“I am not in favour of repeatedly pleading Bangladesh to tour Pakistan,” said Ramiz. “The BCB has no significant role in international cricket. So it looks odd to me to plead the case again and again to such a board. The PCB already got hurt and it’s the second time.”
The former Test captain advised the PCB to instead improve its domestic structure. “The PCB should work on the domestic structure like South Africa did at the time of apartheid.
They worked a lot and kept their domestic structure at a good level,” he added.
Meanwhile, Ramiz called for promoting Akmal brothers up the order which he felt can make an impact. “Both Kamran and Umar have a good strike rate, close to 90 in the ODIs, better than the top four batsmen. This can make an impact, especially on batting tracks if they are sent up the order,” Ramiz explained.
