Misbah hails Indian fightback

NEW DELHI: Misbah-ul-Haq could have emulated the great Clive Lloyd by whitewashing India in their backyard on Sunday.

But the Pakistan captain who top-scored for the visitors in a low-scoring encounter that his team lost by 10 runs failed to finish the game.

Instead of finding faults in what was a poor batting display by his otherwise in-form team, Misbah chose to give credit to India for winning the match from a seemingly losing position.

“Full marks to the Indians. They bowled very well and their fielding was outstanding. We tried to see off the new ball, but the ball was doing things even after that. It was difficult to score runs,” Misbah said in his post-match comments.

The Pakistan captain was pleased with the overall performance of his team in what certainly was a very successful tour for the.

“There were plenty of positives from this series, especially the fast bowlers and Nasir Jamshed. It was a great series, tightly contested and today we had another tight game,” he said.

One of the brightest spots for Pakistan during the brief tour was young opener Nasir Jamshed, who was rewarded with the man of the series title after finishing as the highest-scorer in the three-match contest in which he hit two successive centuries.

But the left-hander was disappointed over the fact that his team finished its tour with a poor batting display.

“I started well today, but unfortunately didn’t last till the end. The pitch was difficult to score in the second innings. Thanks to the crowd, it has been great all this series,” said the 23-year-old batter.

Agencies add: India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni hailed his bowling and fielding department for notching up the face—saving 10—run win against Pakistan in the low—scoring third and final ODI of the series.

Coming into the match with the three—match series already out of their grasp after losing in the first two ODIs, India struggled to 167 all out before producing a spirited bowling and fielding display to restrict Pakistan to 157.

Dhoni said that the only positive to come out of the series against Pakistan was the India’s bowling effort.
