Govt, opposition’s bid to stop Qadri’s long march Decide to finalise electoral reforms agenda

ISLAMABAD: The government and opposition have agreed on Saturday to complete the electoral reforms agenda in order to stop the long march of Dr Tahirul Qadri on January 14.

The Senate Special Committee on Electoral Reforms will endorse the political code of conduct tomorrow (Monday) in this regard. The representatives of the government and opposition are also planning to hold a joint press conference later on, so that a clear message could be delivered to Dr Tahirul Qadri that parliament was already working on an electoral reform agenda.

The sources said that the political and non-political circles of Islamabad were in panic due to the Sheikhul Islam’s long march.

According to sources, a special committee led by Leader of the House in the Senate Jehangir Badr is working on electoral reforms in the light of the May 7 judgment of the Supreme Court. The PML-N has already submitted its recommendations to the electoral reforms committee.

MNA Anusha Rehman advocate, the representative of the PML-N in the committee, said Dr Tahirul Qadri should also review the reforms on which they had been working in parliament for the last four years.
