KARACHI: The Tehrik-e-Minhajul Quran (TMQ) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri on Wednesday said people would throw out the caretaker government if it was set up prior to the long march.
Talking to media persons here, Dr Qadri said they wanted the implementation on the Constitution and not any kind of legislation.
He said that some politicians were suggesting reforms to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) which was a futile exercise. He said the ECP has no right to legislate.
The TMQ leader said he was ready to meet President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf to create a powerful caretaker government.
He paid rich tributes to the martyrs of the Aisha Manzil blast and offered Fateha for the departed souls.
Dr Qadri said democracy exists in the country in name alone, but, in actuality, it is non-existent.
“Our revolution is peaceful, as it is Mustafavi and Muhammadi in nature and has nothing to do with violence and rioting,” Dr Qadri said, vowing that he would not allow any impediment to pose a threat to the existence and survival of Pakistan even at the cost of his life.
“I will sacrifice my life but not let Pakistan’s existence be jeopardised,” he said.
“I am not dispatching the proposals to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) as it has no power at all. Instead, we want an India-like Election Commission,” he observed.
He once again clarified that the deadline given to the government would expire on January 10, while the long march would start on January 14.
Meanwhile, Dr Qadri called President Awami Tehrik Ayaz Latif Palejo and invited him to participate in the TMQ’s long march.
But Palejo declined the request, citing participation of the MQM in the march as the prime reason.
