Many different photographers will offer the rights to print when booking a session. This basically means that you are allowed to print your photos wherever you would like. I refer all of my clients to one source, one for me, that stands head and shoulders above the rest due to the quality, pricing and fast turnaround times. Rights to print and a photo release are two different things. When given the rights to print your photographer will always own the photos which gives them the rights to post or use them as they please, if they are contacted to use your photo in a magazine, blog or on a social media page, they have every right to. When a photographer signs off a release, this gives the client sole rights to the photos, the photographer is not able to use them for anything as they do not own any rights to the photos what so ever.
Printing rights are more often granted. With me, I offer rights to print on all of my photos just because I have no reason to withhold precious memories from clients. When you go to chain studios they scribble PROOF over the photos to ensure that they aren't used unless you purchase the photos one by one. I always refer mpix.com for photo printing. They more often than not will have your prints sent to you within just a couple of days which is great for those who are super excited to see their photos on their wall instead of on a screen.
Mpix.com offers three different paper types, over 20 different photo sizes, cards, canvases, photo cubes, calendars and many other gift style photo printing methods! Here, clients will easily order their own photos without a print release or hassle. Clients can view the cropping associated with printing as well if there is any, usually with 8x10 or wallets you will have slight cropping. Some print companies won't have you approve the crop and will crop at their discretion, at mpix you will be stopped before printing which will then allow you to select the crop.
Another thing mpix offers is the option to color correct. I have never used color correction as many of my photos are edited using filters or added colors to take on certain effects so I'm not sure what color corrected photos would look like so if you want your photos to appear just as they do on the screen, you will want to make sure to check the box that says do not color correct!
