Weekly inflation posts nominal increase

ISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week ended on December 20, for the lowest income group up to Rs8,000, registered a nominal increase of 0.04 percent as compared to the previous week.

The SPI for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 181.54 points against 181.47 points registered in the previous week, according the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2007-2008=100, covering 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.

The SPI for the combined group increased by 0.03 percent as it increased from 187.61 points in the previous week to 187.67 points in the week under review.

As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review witnessed an increase of 7.49 percent.

As compared to last week, the SPI for the income groups from Rs8,001-12,000, 12,001-18,000, 18,001-35,000 and above Rs35,000 increased by 0.03 percent, 0.03 percent, 0.03 and 0.05 percent, respectively.

During the week under review, average prices of 13 items registered a decrease, while that of 11 items increased with the remaining 29 items’ prices unchanged.
