The Municipal Workers Trade Union Alliance has threatened to hold protest demonstration on December 4 if the salaries of employees of Saddar Town and Lyari Town are not disbursed.
According to the Alliance, employees are still deprived of salaries for October even though November has also gone by.
In a statement issued on Friday the Chairman of the alliance, Syed Zulfikar Shah, said that due to non-payment of the salaries these employees were facing severe financial crises.
He said they were literally starving and their children were being issued letters on behalf of the school managements warning them of expulsion due to nonpayment of fees.
He said the employees who had taken loan from the bank would have to deposit a fine of two months. He said if the salaries are not paid till December 3 then they would protest at Karachi Press Club (KPC) and the Chief Minister’s House on December 4.
He said the employees performed additional duties on Eid-ul-Azha and during Ashura and they fully cooperated with the management however the management did not fulfill its promises.
Shah said the employees had not been paid Offal Allowance, overtime of nine months, cash payment of uniform and some other due facilities.
Contactor suspends fuel supply:
Due to the ongoing financial crunch of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), the contractor concerned has suspended diesel and petrol supply to all vehicles which used in cleaning corridors, mechanical sweepers, fumigation vehicles, generators and to some other vehicles.
The fuel supply to the fire brigade department has also been reduced to 50 percent of its allocated quota. According to the alliance the fire brigade department has been left with fuel for only two days. It requested the higher authorities to take notice of the situation and release Special Grant and the grant regarding Octroi Zila Tax (OZT) to KMC.
