KARACHI: Pakistan Kabaddi Federation (PKF) announced on Saturday that it would not send the national team for the 3rd World Cup in India if visas were not issued to the whole contingent.
“It is the decision of the house of the PKF if our full contingent was not issued visas we would not send the team for the World Cup,” PKF secretary Mohammad Sarwar told ‘The News’.
“When we went to the Indian High Commission today we found that a few of our players, a coach and a technical official were not issued visas. We were told that their clearance has not been sent as yet. We were also told to receive passports of those players and officials who have already been issued visas but we did not do that and told them that we need visas for the whole contingent,” Sarwar revealed.
He said that his name was also included in the list of those whose clearance was not yet received.
“Now we have been advised to wait till tomorrow morning and let’s see what happens,” said Sarwar, also the secretary of the Asian Kabaddi Federation (AKF).
Sarwar was also not issued visa last year for the 2nd World Cup in which Pakistan finished with a bronze.
When Sarwar was asked if the rest of the contingent was issued visas except him then the team would be sent in that case, he said in that case the team would be sent but Pakistan would face problems during the event.
“We had issued visas to 30-member India’s contingent for the Asian Championship held in Lahore recently. If we can do that why India cannot issue visas to our whole contingent,” Sarwar said. The competitions were scheduled to start from Saturday and will last till December 15.
