How Safe Are Contact Lenses

If you have just been diagnosed with vision impairment in either one of your eyes and are contemplating using contact lenses instead of glasses, then the first obvious thought to cross your mind probably is how safe are they? The answer is very.
As of now, millions of people all over the globe are reading this with the help of contact lenses alone. In fact, not only have contact lenses helped people control their eyesight, but also the correct, long-term use has cured some people of their shortcomings completely. The trick to ensuring that contact lenses work well for you is to follow the accompanying instructions given by your ophthalmologist to the ‘T'.

Two kinds of contact lenses
While there are many kinds of contact lenses including colored ones, the most common ones given to people suffering from poor eyesight are essentially of two kinds, soft contact lenses and the hard ones. The latter ones, which were the first to be introduced did produce complications in patients such as fungal infections, cornea scratches, eye watering etc. Soft contact lenses, which were introduced later, were more cornea friendly on account of being soft and delicate on the eyes. Today, these contact lenses continue to be favored among people of all ages and sexes.

Hygiene: Key to healthy contact lenses
Remember to always disinfect and clean your contact lenses every time you wear them as this removes the risk of fungal infections. Also, ensure your hands and fingertips in particular are well washed and germ free while wearing and removing contact lenses. Avoid rubbing your eyes while wearing contact lenses, as there is a possibility they might tear while in your eye, causing excessive eye watering and even pain.
While we all get lazy and tend to recycle lens solution, it is highly ill-advised, as you should never refill or top up your contact lens case. Instead, every time you use your lenses, you must take time and pains to clean the lens containers and add fresh lens solution.

Never compromise
Given the popularity of contact lenses, loads of minor companies and even doctors have started taking out their own versions of these contact lenses. However, the best ones are still from established companies that have been stocking the best products. These contact lenses may be expensive on the pocket but given that your eyes are priceless, it would serve you well to buy and use only the best.
