Governor for steps to make KP, Fata polio-free

PESHAWAR: Governor Masood Kausar on Wednesday said that concrete steps were needed to eradicate polio from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Fata.

“We, as a nation, are yet to be excluded from the list of couple of countries where people are still suffering from this fatal virus,” the governor said while presiding the quarterly meeting of the Task Force on Polio Eradication here.

MNAs Dr Azra Fazal Pechuhu, who is the Prime Minister’s Focal Person for Polio Eradication and Shahnaz Wazir Ali, Chairperson of Polio Oversight Committee, team leaders of WHO and UNICEF and representatives of 11 Corps of Pakistan Army besides the provincial Minister for Health Syed Zahir Ali Shah, chairman standing committee of the provincial assembly on Health, Syed Jaffar Shah, Chief Secretary Ghulam Dastagir Akhtar, commissioners and district coordination officers from across the province attended the meeting, said a handout.

Provincial secretary health briefed the participants about the prevailing situation, ongoing steps to streamline the polio eradication campaign and the measures to boost the efforts against the disease.
