Entertainment wall units can be put to
many uses, one of these being to make separate iPod furniture
unnecessary. Many people spend money on furniture for their iPod dock
and speakers, yet with the right choice of furniture, you can fix up
your TV, surround sound system, hi-fi system and your iPod to the one
set of stereo surround speakers.
In fact, you can use an
entertainment wall unit to incorporate your TV, whether that is an
old-style TV or a flat-screen, a comprehensive speaker system, and all
the external sources, such as the TV, a hi-fi CD deck, DVD player and an
iPod. To do all this you would need a separate amplifier, although
there are many of these on the market, into which you can attach the
feed from each of your sound sources.
These amplifiers can handle your 5.1 surround sound TV and
video system, and play music from the other sources through the same
speakers, so you have need for separate iPod furniture. The furniture
available to hold this equipment is available in the form of individual
cabinets and stands, or as part of entertainment wall units that have a
triple use:
1. Entertainment Wall Units as Items of Furniture
The wall units are magnificent pieces of home furniture that look
great in your living room or lounge. They are available in a range of
solid woods, such as American cherry, oak and mahogany, or with a
beautifully polished or waxed walnut veneer. You can choose the wood
finishes you want, from black or white paint to oak, maple or cherry
stained to any finish you prefer.
Simply Amish offers some
fabulous entertainment furniture, such as the Prairie Mission Wall Unit
Entertainment Center available in a large selection of solid wood and
wood finishes. This is almost 110" inches wide and 74.5" high. The
Imperial and Classic entertainment wall units are even longer, at 128"
wide. These units offer ample space for boxes and speakers, and also a
display unit either side of the TV hutch.
The Custom Shoppe
will allow you to design your own entertainment wall units, and they
will construct it for you - though you do not have the design copyright
on it! Some of the options this company offers have been designed by
customers, and enable the TV screen to be dropped into a slot or rotated
round 180 degrees when not in use to reveal a display unit.
2. Visual Entertainment Centers
Although entertainment wall units should be magnificent item of
furniture in your home, they must also be functional. Visually, most
people want a form of TV furniture in their home, and wall units are
ideal for this. They can store, not only a full-sized TV, but also
widescreen plasma, LCD and LED screens, satellite boxes and DVD video
recorders and players. Some people still have the old VHS systems, and
such units can also accommodate these.
Most TV furniture
can also be arranged to accommodate a laptop or iPad, enabling you to
access the internet using your widescreen TV. All the necessary
equipment can be fitted in, and all the cables needed are run up the
back and out of sight. That's where an entertainment wall unit scores
over a TV stand set away from the wall - a lack of ugly cabling!
3. Audio Systems
Most people now have stereo on their TV and DVD or Blu-Ray players,
mainly 5.1 involving 5 speakers and a sub-woofer. As explained earlier,
4 of these can be fitted into a wall unit - a 128 inch unit gives
around 10 feet of separation between the front side speakers, with the
center and sub-woofer also able to be fitted. If not, contact The Custom
Shoppe, and they will make a unit to meet your needs!
You
can also fit a hi-fi system, even if you still prefer vinyl LPs. Many
believe the waveform reproduction of vinyl offers a purer sound and
better reproduction than the digital bytes of CD or DVD. A wall unit can
accommodate a record deck. Individual iPod furniture is unnecessary
because the small iPod dock can be fitted to any of the shelves on the
display unit or bridge, and attached to the common amplifier and
speakers.
With regard to speakers, if you use Bang and
Olufsen, JBL or KEF or similar in your 5.1 system, your audio
reproduction will be superb. Much better than you need for your TV, but
essential for your hi-fi reproduction and even your iPod! If you use a
good amplifier attached to the speakers, you will get superb sound.
Forget these tiny iPod speakers!
One of the benefits of
using solid wood entertainment wall units is that there will be minimum
vibration, particular from the low frequency sub-woofers, and much
better sound reproduction than from less substantial speaker stands.
When you consider that this super-sized iPod furniture looks great in
your home, then it really is a no-brainer.
