World Moving Tips

Author: Acclaimed Movers

Here are a few helpful world moving tips that offer guidance on some of the most important aspects of moving to another country:

Work
Finding work in other countries can actually be the most difficult aspect to moving abroad. Many other countries' economies are also struggling and as a result have made it more difficult for emigrating residents to find work. Check with the consulate to the country of your interest to find more information about their foreign policy.

The IRS
The IRS requires all departing residents to be up-to-date on back taxes and have a Departure Permit filed. These can be acquired at any designated Taxpayer Assistance Center or online. This should be initiated at least two weeks before your move.

Passports and Visas
Passports are government issued documents that serve as an internationally recognized form of identification. Passports should be accompanied by Visas, a document that authorizes your entry into the country.

Passports are acquired through local government desks, such as post offices and libraries. Prices on passports vary, to acquire an adult passport for the first time currently costs $165. You will need a DS-11 Application for a US Passport form along with valid identification (and photocopy).

Visas, however, are dependent on the policy of the country to which you are moving. Give yourself plenty of time to contact the embassy or consulate office of your destination and determine what you'll need to do. Some countries go so far as to have lists of preferred professions for immigrants to provide and have tests or point systems to determine if you are eligible to contribute to their economy.

Banking and Insurance
Most US based insurance companies don't offer life insurance to people planning on moving abroad. However if you do hold a life insurance policy already your coverage should remain intact. Contact your insurance carrier to find out how moving will affect policies you hold, and look into the way insurance functions in your destination country. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Larger banks often have international coverage, but be sure to get in contact with your bank to find out if there will be any changes to your service. If your bank does not offer coverage in the country to which you are moving they should be able to offer some guidance as to the options you have.

Utilities and Phone Service
When shutting of your utility services, get in contact with your provider and let them know you are not just moving but having your account closed completely. This is a good idea in order to avoid any potential problems that could affect your credit rating. You may need to pay a fine or file additional paperwork.

With world moving, not only is your cellphone coverage important but also the actual phone's usability. Many other countries have different voltage outputs, and there are also specific legal stipulations pertaining to international commerce that may affect your phone's contract. Contact your provider to find out more information.

Moving Service Providers
The way most world moving services operate is by providing a cargo container for your belongings to be stored in, which is shipped overseas by way of either plane or sea. From there your cargo is met by a member of the moving company's team, cleared through customs, and delivered to your new home. Full-service world moving companies can also provide expert movers to assist in packing your cargo container in the safest and most efficient way to ensure a safer passage.

When you are shopping for a world moving service provider, don't compare just their prices alone. Also weigh the extent of their coverage offered, expenses covered in their quote, and the level of professionalism in which the company operates. Moving is a large task that requires an investment of trust in your movers, so paying for the best moving services available may just be worth it.

Be sure to go through a thorough price breakdown with each world moving provider. A reputable moving company will be happy to do this and it gives you a good perspective on the costs that some companies may include that others leave out. Don't be afraid to ask plenty of questions. When you have decided which world moving service best provides for your moving needs, book your date as soon as possible.

Moving with Kids
Education systems in other countries can present a wider range of options for your child. Most other developed countries have three options for school- state, private, and international. The curriculum to international schools is typically the most similar to the U.S. School system and as such is the most popular. But there are schools in other countries shaped with much different focuses than the traditional U.S. school system's path.
