KARACHI: Test discard Umar Amin on Tuesday cracked his career-best 236 not out to help Port Qasim Authority post 539-3 in their first innings against Habib Bank Limited (HBL) on the second day of their four-day, last round match of the President’s Trophy Grade-I at the Diamond Club Ground in Islamabad.
The left-hander, who played his last Test against England in Birmingham in August 2010, resumed his innings from his overnight score of 97 and batted with great authority to complete his first double century of his first-class career to lift Port Qasim Authority, who had resumed at 293-2.
The 23-year-old Rawalpindi-born player cracked 28 boundaries and two sixes in his 330-ball knock. Umar, who has played four Tests and three One-day Internationals, added 228 runs for the fourth-wicket unbroken association with his skipper Khalid Latif who was batting on 76 which was studded with six fours and a six. Khalid had retired ill without scoring on the first day while opening the innings with Khurram Manzoor.
Amin, who stayed at the crease for 472 minutes, earlier was also involved in 130-run third wicket partnership with Daniyal Ahsan, who was the only batsman to get out in the whole day for 50 after adding only eight runs to his overnight total.
This was also the first double century of the season from any player so far. With the dream effort Amin became the leading scorer of the season with 722 in 17 innings.
It was a frustrating day for Habib Bank bowlers and even Test pacer Umar Gul failed to extract any support from the deck as he conceded 111 runs in his 36.4 overs without taking any wicket.
Meanwhile, Test cricketer Imran Nazir slammed his career-best 185 and Haris Sohail cracked 152 as Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) declared their first innings at 643-6 after resuming at 407-4 against United Bank Limited (UBL) at the Marghzar Cricket Ground in Islamabad.
Imran, who was batting on 55 on Monday, faced 152 balls and smashed 24 fours and two sixes for his ninth first-class century. He added 190 runs for the fifth wicket partnership with left-handed Haris Sohail who had resumed from 103.
The Sialkot-born batting sensation smashed 18 fours and four sixes in his fine innings that came from 210 deliveries.
Zohaib Khan remained not out on 57-ball 55 with eight fours. Test discard Shabbir Ahmed and Atif Jabbar took two wickets each.
In reply, UBL were reeling at 147-8 at close. Imran Ali scored 61.
Test pacer Mohammad Khalil took three, while Junaid Nadir and Junaid Zia got two wickets each.
Wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan scored a resilient century while medium fast bowler Bilawal Bhatti took four wickets to put Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) in a strong position against State Bank of Pakistan at the National Ground in Islamabad.
