Two ‘robbers’ were killed in an ‘encounter’ staged in the K-Block of Defence-B police limits in the wee hours of Friday.
However, two of their accomplices managed to flee from the scene, claimed a police officer. The killed persons were identified as Aslam Lahori, A resident of Kasur, and Allah Rakha, a resident of Kamonki.
As per police claim, four robbers barged into House No 144 in K-Block after holding security guard hostage. In the meantime, a servant of the house, Imran Javed, informed police at Rescue 15. As police team reached the crime scene, robbers opened firing which led to an encounter. As a result, two robbers died instantly after receiving bullets while two others managed to escape.
A police official said that the accused robbers had used a car bearing number LEO-3918 to commit robbery which had also been taken into custody. He added that the accused were involved in a number of felony acts.
However, the killed accused person Aslam Lahori’s family, while talking to media men at mortuary, claimed that police had taken both persons into custody a couple of days back. They added that the police had also conducted raid at their house in Kamonki in three police vans and looted cash and other valuables, including the dowry of Aslam’s daughter. They have appealed to the IG for justice.
It is also worth mentioning here that Defence-B police had taken a car into custody in the wee hours of Thursday from G-Block, Defence which was deserted by robbers outside the house.
It is being suspected that police had arrested the accused on the same day and killed them in a fake encounter on Friday.
Robbers kill constable: Robbers killed a constable of Muhafiz Squad and injured a security guard of a petrol pump in the Nawab Town police limits on Friday.
Police removed the body to morgue for autopsy while the robbers managed to flee after looting cash and cell phone.
The investigators have also received CCTV footage of the incident from the petrol pump to identify the robbers.
The victim constable was identified as Muhammad Khalid, son of Gulab Din, a resident of Street No 12, Makka Colony, Gulberg while the injured guard was identified as Abid. The injured victim was shifted to Jinnah Hospital.
SHO Mian Qadeer said that the constable was on routine patrolling after performing security duty at Faizan-e-Madina Mosque during Juma prayer. He witnessed two robbers, riding a Honda 125 bike, committing robbery bid at a petrol pump. The constable moved towards the robbers to capture them alone. The robbers, seeing the cop, opened indiscriminate firing.
As a result, a bullet hit his chest claiming his life on the spot. The security guard also received bullet injury in the incident.
Meanwhile, robbers looted Rs 12,000 in cash and a cell phone and fled from the scene. Local police, led by Sp Investigation Saddar Division, Muntazir Mehdi, reached the scene and collected evidence. A special team was also constituted to arrest fleeing robbers but to no avail.
The victim constable has been survived by three little daughters and a widow. The victim’s colleagues told that Khalid was a daring policeman adding that he had also arrested two robbers during an encounter a few days back.
