‘Sugar mill owners reluctant to start crushing’

LAHORE: Kissan Board Pakistan (KBP) has said that most of the sugar mills in Punjab and Sindh have not started crushing, causing problems for growers and delaying wheat sowing, according to a statement on Tuesday.

Sardar Zafar Hussein Khan, president of the Kissan Board, termed undue delay in launching crushing season an anti-farmer step.

He asked the governments of Sindh and Punjab to issue strict orders to the mills for immediate start of the sugarcane crushing.

Stern action should be taken against mill owners irrespective of their political background, he said.
