PTI’s Israr Shah asks CJP to prevent corrupt politicians from contesting elections

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Additional Information Secretary Dr Israr Shah has demanded Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to prevent corrupt politicians from contesting elections.

In his letter Israr Shah requested the Chief Justice that those families, who capitalized the bad financial practices of banks and got their huge loans written off and are now leading a lavish life in a royal fashion, should be declared ineligible for upcoming elections.

In a letter he wrote on Monday to the Chief Justice he asked CJP to take suo motu notice He said in his letter “The nation deem politics as worship but it is a stark reality of Pakistan politics that as a result of 1970 elections, a large number of political workers belonging to middle class reached the assemblies . But afterwards, under a conspiracy the genuine political workers were gradually shunted out from parliamentary democracy”.

The letter stated that the Establishment propped up a class of toadies and promoted them on the political horizon of Pakistan. The historical decision of Supreme Court in Asghar Khan case proved this. Army Chief General Ishfaq Pervez Kayani confessed in his recent statement that army committed mistakes in past.

Dr. Shah mentioned in his letter that present parliamentary democracy was hostage in the hands of ruling elite. This class has plundered the national exchequer in a manner that now they can afford to even ‘buy’ an election and cling to power as ever. There is no hope for the present and the future generation. Pakistan’s economy is in shambles and the country has been put into an Oxygen tent.

“Present parliament has failed to pass an “Accountability Bill” for own ulterior motives. The government and opposition are playing a ‘blame game’ for the last four and half years,” the letter said, adding that the sole ray of hope for the “Poor Pakistan” is the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

“Those families, who enjoyed corrupt practice of any amnesty scheme to get themselves spared by the law, should also be declared ineligible for upcoming elections,” the letter said, adding that those families involved in money laundering and having established business/industrial units outside the country should be declared ineligible for upcoming elections.

It further said those who remained part of the parliament or civil/military bureaucracy after 1985, with no legitimate source of income but their assets and standard of living are not compatible, should not be allowed to contest election until they justify their wealth. The letter further added that the said yardstick should also apply to present members of Senate, irrespective of length of incumbency and there was lacuna in judicial system that every corrupt man publicly challenges to prove his corruption through courts. Unfortunately our corrupt mafia has capacity to hire “Legal actors” to protect their crimes.
