Presidency’s activities raise rigging doubts: JI

LAHORE

Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Liaqat Baloch has said that the Presidency has turned into headquarters of a political party which increases masses’ apprehension of rigging the coming election.

Talking to the media and addressing an Eid Milan party, organized by Awami Rickshaw Union here on Friday, he said it would not be easy for the Zardari regime to secure the election results of its choice as the Election Commission of Pakistan was all powerful and the judiciary and the media were free.

Baloch demanded immediate recovery of the public money distributed among the political parties in the light of the Supreme Court’s verdict on Asghar Khan case besides permanent stopping of the agencies involvement in politics.

He said such a measure was essential to stop the chances of subverting the public mandate.

Baloch said the JI had always denied receiving any money from the ISI and its record was clear of any such blemish.

He said that the poor masses also had their right to the resources of the country like the rich. However, in the present system, the rich were enjoying all the facilities and luxuries while the masses were left high and dry.

The JI leader said the society would be prosperous only when the workers and laborers were happy and they got basic facilities.

He called for setting up rickshaw stands in cities and towns like bus stands and wagon stands and added that rickshaw drivers should not be harassed by the traffic police.
