NCL expanding capacity by 22,000 spindles

KARACHI: The management of Nishat Chunian Limited plan to expand its spinning segment capacity by 22,000 spindles, according to a statement on Tuesday.

The company has also acquired Taj Textile Limited, which is primarily engaged in the manufacture of cotton yarn.

Moreover, in order to secure a sustained power supply and reduce reliance on expensive alternate fuel, the company has decided to switch over to the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) to cater to its electricity requirements of 20MW.

“The incremental revenue from additional capacity will provide significant boost to the profitability of the company,” said Mohammad Affan at BMA Capital.

As of June 2012, NCL was operating 150,000 spindles and 293 air jet looms with a monthly production capacity of 7.5 million pounds of yarn and four million yards of greige fabric.

The dyeing and finishing unit has a capacity of 3.5 million yards per month supported by an equivalent stitching capacity. Sales have steadily increased from $8.5 million in 1991 to over $235 million in 2011, which includes exports of over $165 million.
