Law and order situation in city to improve soon, says governor

Karachi

The Sindh governor has assured Karachi’s business community that the law and order situation in the city would improve in the coming days.

Talking to a delegation of the city’s business community at the Governor’s House on Friday, Dr Ishratul Ebad said President Asif Ali Zardari and Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain both realised the need for taking steps to curb the growing crime rate in the metropolis.

The delegation had met the governor to discuss with him the deteriorating law and order situation in the city.

“The political will is there to curb the increasing crime rate and steps are being taken to bring the situation under control,” the governor remarked.

Ebad added there was a need for restoring the confidence of the public, and the law enforcement agencies were taking measures for their security.

“The conviction of criminals is the only solution to the problem. The law enforcement agencies’ actions must create a sense of security among the people.”

Ebad said he was personally monitoring the situation and hoped that it would improve soon.

Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry leader Tariq Saeed told the governor that the business community had to face embarrassment when foreign investors refused to visit the country due to its law and order situation.

He added businessmen would be able to bring more investment to the country if the situation improved.

Saeed noted that the image of Karachi and Lahore had suffered abroad. He, however, appreciated the Sindh governor’s efforts to improve the situation.

Other businessmen that were part of the delegation included SM Munir, Mian Zahid and Tariq Meer. Additional Home Secretary Waseem Ahmed and Commissioner Hashim Zaidi also attended the meeting.
