IGP Sindh inspects security measures

KARACHI: Inspector General of Police, Sindh Fayyaz Laghari, accompanied by other senior officers, visited different areas of Karachi to inspect the security measures and deployment plan at the routes of mourning processions and congregations on the eve of Ashura.

IGP was informed that at least 100 processions including a main procession are being taken out and over 573 congregations (Majalis) are held in the city on Ashura.

He was told that police officers and snipers have been deployed high-rise buildings located at the routes of mourning procession. The sealed shops and vacant houses along the procession routes have also been kept under strict check.

The officers and personnel deployed at head and tail of procession were in constant contact so that they could be issued directives from Command and Control Center. The officers and personnel in plain clothes have also been deployed in the vicinity of central procession who are in touch with intelligence agencies for sharing any information.

The bomb disposal squad was also active at congregation points, parking places while strict check was maintained by walk-through gates and metal detector at Nishtar Park.

IGP directed the concerned officials to ensure availability of modern weapons to the officials and personnel deployed for security. (PPI)
