You need to make sure that these recipes have an exact measurement. For example, red rose petals need to be 3 cups, rose leaves have to be 1 cup and rose oil has to be 15 drops. The orris root has to be added as this will serve as fixative to ensure that the fragrance will last longer.

Here are the procedures in making your own potpourri recipe:

• On a mesh screen, spread the fresh petals and other floral. If you do not have a mesh screen you can also use a large tray. Once the petals are fully spread, place them in a warm, dry place. Try spreading them around a little every day until they are completely dry. You also need to put dried petals in a metal bowl or a large glass.
• It is also important that you add a fixative because this can provide your potpourri a long lasting fragrance. Some of the fixatives that you can consider include powdered ground gum benzoin, orris root, cellulose, oak moss or fiber fix. Proper ration and proportion should also be observed when making potpourri.
• The mixture should be placed in a paper bag. Make sure that it is sealed with clips or clothespins. You also have to take note that the bag needs to be turned over several times. This is to ensure that the fixative is evenly distributed. For the potpourri to be completely seasoned, you need to shake the bag from time to time.
• Once the potpourri is seasoned, transfer them into an open container and store them in a warm place. You should add a few drops of essential oils and mix them with your hands. If the fragrance diminishes, mix them from time to time.
