LAHORE
ABDUL Qadir Gilani, MNA and son of former Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, has voiced concerns over the withdrawal of security from his father and family, saying that the Punjab government will be responsible for any untoward incident.
In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Chief Secretary Punjab Nasir Saeed Khosa and Punjab inspector general police, Abdul Qadir Gilani, the elder son of the former PM demanded foolproof security to Yusuf Raza Gilani and the family ‘without any delay’ to avoid any ‘unfortunate’ occurrence. In the letter, he stated that it was very unfortunate that despite it being a constitutional and legal responsibility, the Punjab government was not providing sufficient security to Ex-PM and his family despite being on the ‘direct target of terrorists.’
“I don’t need to remind you that a few terrorists have also been apprehended from Lahore on the November 10, 2012 and very sensitive details were revealed by them.” He said it electronic and print media covered the news and it the high-ups must be aware of it.
AK Gilani also stated that he personally had been getting threat letter for the last few years which were enclosed here within.
“It is highly alarming that security of the former head of the government has been withdrawn and he, along with his family, had been left at the mercy of terrorists and enemies of the state,” he said.
“I would like to bring on record that, God forbids, in case of any unfortunate incident against the former prime minister or any of his family members, the Punjab government will be responsible and this request must, therefore, be taken seriously,” said the junior Gilani. This is noteworthy that members of the Gilani family also look quite unhappy with the way they are being treated at the moment regarding the security issue. Two former prime ministers, living in Lahore, including PML-N President Nawaz Sharif and PML-Q President Shujaat Hussain had given ample security, said a member of Gilani family while talking to The News.
