Although there are many areas of the home that can become cluttered, the garage is one that typically bears the brunt of the problem. One reason why that is the case is because it is typically out of the public eye so it is an easy target for anything that does not have its own place in the home. For example, you may have closet overflow that ends up in the garage as well as items that have been stored for quite some time. That doesn't mean, however, that a garage which has become cluttered is completely without hope. As a matter of fact, there are several things that can be done which can get you organized and actually provide you and your family with additional working space.
One of the first things that you need to do when cleaning your garage is to have a plan. There are plenty of garage organization ideas available on the Internet and you may find it beneficial to review those possibilities before getting started on your project. It is likely that you are going to hear that it is a good idea to start in one particular area of the garage and to work from that area in a pattern. That pattern can either be around the perimeter of the garage or it can be in a sweeping motion across the entire room. This allows you to work in a methodical manner and it also allows you to see some progress.
You should also consider the fact that the garage is not two-dimensional. Many of us tend to utilize the floor space of the garage in a very inefficient manner. The fact of the matter is, however, the garage can also be used in a vertical sense as well as using the ceiling. It really comes down to having the organizational components that are necessary so that you can use the entire garage efficiently. This may come in the form of a pegboard, one of the more popular organizational items that can go into the garage. With the right type of pegboard attachments, you can not only store smaller items but you may also be able to store larger items so that they are up and off of the floor.
Another problem that often occurs when you are cleaning the garage is not knowing whether to keep something or to throw it away. This is particularly the case when you have something that has some form of sentimental value. You need to consider that in most cases, the items that you come across when cleaning the garage have not been seen or even thought about for many years. If it is possible for you to part with those items, it is much better for you to do so now than to simply re-store them to be found a decade later.
With the right type of plan, you might be surprised with how quickly you are able to get through the organizational project and to have more room in the home. You might even find that you are able to park a car in the garage, something that far too few people are able to do.
