CDA directed to conduct drive against encroachers

Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) Thursday directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to indiscriminately conduct an operation against encroachers in the federal capital.

During last hearing, the court had directed the CDA to submit a detailed report about kiosks allotted to different people in the federal capital. Legal counsel of the CDA Jawad Nazir submitted a detailed report of approximately 1,000 kiosks allotted to different persons since 1960. He also submitted that 50 out of 1,000 kiosk owners have made encroachments and the CDA has served them with legal notices.

The IHC bench directed the CDA to put all these cases before the commission formed to review the CDA matters under the chairmanship of former Supreme Court judge Justice (r) Sardar Raza. The commission will review the legality of all these allotments.

With regard to the kiosks that had been previously allotted to Khalid Malik, the real brother of Federal Minister for Interior Rehman Malik, and later it was transferred to some other person. The CDA could not produce the CNIC copy of the new allottee as per directions of the IHC bench on previous date of hearing. The said kiosk was allotted in the Shalimar Park of Sector F-7/3. The court had directed the CDA to remove encroachments from the surroundings of the kiosk and produce the new allottee along with his CNIC before the court on November 14.
